Ways to Use a Drying Rack + a Giveaway

By PreparednessMama on June 29, 2018 * 72 Comments

You really can hang more than laundry.

Ways to use a drying rack | PreparednessMama

There’s a new toy at my house. I call it a toy but we’ve been doing plenty of practical things with it too.

Did you know that my family gave up paper towels? That’s right, now we use s system of napkins and rags to take care of wiping faces, hands and cleaning up spills. It only adds a bit extra to the weekly wash, but his week I’ve taken to hanging my napkins on my new heavy duty drying rack to save a bit more money each week.

ENTER the giveaway BELOW

I decided to find other uses for my new rack.  Laundry is of course, the most obvious way to use a heavy duty drying rack. Here in the south there are plenty of sunny days and this drying rack fits well on my back deck. Why wait for a weekly laundry load to use it, though? There must be other things it’s good for…

6 other ways to use a drying rack

  1. As a pasta drying rack – You could purchase a fancy pasta rack (and they are cool) but this foldable drying rack would work just as well. Here’s a post from Good Morning Gloucester to get you started.
  2. If you are crafty there are about 50 things you might consider hanging from your rack. I think it’s time to make beeswax dipped candles and hand them to dry. See how it’s done at Keeping Backyard Bees.
  3. As extra counter space. The gullwing arms are easily secured with locking bars at just about any angle you can think of. We’ve used it at the end of the counter for serving dishes and pans during a family gathering. It’s sturdy enough for the job.
  4. My new drying rack will make a great area to hang herbs to dry. See how to do it in this post  about drying lavender.
  5. You can always put it by the pool to dry bathing suits and towels.
  6. Or put it by the fire to hang mittens and hats. It’s easily foldable and portable.

I got a pasta maker last year as a gift. I haven’t made any yet because I don’t have a way to dry it. But if I WON, I WOU:D!! I would LOVE to try making pasta and dry it on this drying rack! Oh, PS< My one year old dryer just up and died on me, and I have NO way to dry my clothes, either!!!!! (no, really!) I had just bought those dryer balls, and contacted the seller to say they didn’t work AT ALL, and then discovered the dryer heating element had bit the dust!! So, really I NEED this!!!!!
    Thank you for the opportunity!

Besides line drying my delicate items, drying flowers and herbs would be nice. Right now I hang them from coat hangers in a dark closet. Many times they fall apart while attempting to remove the bunch from the hangers. Not real stable way to do it.

I have been looking for a drying rack for quite some time. None met my criteria as they were too flimsy. This looks like a good sturdy rack. I’d use it this winter for drying clothes, as well as using it to dry herbs (and other goodies hubby gathers on his foraging trips!).

i use a wooden one that belonged to my grandmother. I use this when I am doing repacks on some of my bulk purchases. I use the binder clips to hold bags and can fill a lot before I start to seal them. also I have one that had come apart so I mounted one section on the inside of the closet door and use for belts, ties, scarves an even some small hats.

This would work during rainy and/or extremely cold weather to hang wash cloths and dish cloths on to dry as well as the hand towels. I do latch hook and this could hold my finished work while I still work on the rest of it. I also crochet and for large items (afghans, table cloths, etc.) this would be just perfect to hold the finished part while I was still working on the rest of it. Give me a little more time and I can probably come up with a lot more uses, in addition to drying laundry on it.
