How to Be Your Best During the Absolute Worst

Review: The Survival Savvy Family by Julie Sczerbinski | PreparednessMamaSurvival –  continuing to live or exist, typically in spite of an accident, ordeal, or difficult circumstance.

Savvy – shrewd and knowledgeable in the realities of life.

Family – a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household.

Survival Savvy Family – Parents and children, knowledgeable about the realities of life, and thriving despite difficult circumstances  – Your family after reading this book!

I had the opportunity to read a new book this week, The Survival Savvy Family, by my friend Julie Sczerbinski. Julie is the creator of the blog Home Ready Home and she writes about preparedness, food storage and gardening.  She has the same kind of passion about preparedness as I do.

Her new book is a pint sized resource packed full of preparedness information. I loved it.

I call it pint sized because of its literal size. The book measures 5.5 x 7.5 inches. It is perfect for taking with you in a go bag. Which you should definitely do. It has all the worksheets, checklists and detailed directions that your family needs during an emergency.

Survival Savvy is not only a resource, but it’s a workbook – a place to keep all you planning information as you consult with your family. Each chapter is packed full of checklists for planning and tips to keep you safe. I’ve got sticky notes on all the important pages in my copy.

After reading, and working through this book, you will know how to:

  • // Make a family plan for every possible scenario
  • // Identify the specific disasters that may affect your family
  • // Make an emergency kit for every family member
  • // Have your pantry ready for any emergency
  • // Get your first aid kit supplies in order and have the necessary skills to use it
  • // Be prepared away from home
  • // Be ready to stay at home in an emergency – or go if necessary
  • //Know what to do in a house fire or home invasion
  • // and much more…

A plan is just another family conversation. It doesn’t have to be complicated or boring. Julie Sczerbinski

Here’s what I think you should do with The Survival Savvy Family: How to Be Your Best During the Absolute Worst – Take each of the 13 chapters and learn from them. You could hold a family meeting each week, and discuss the topics Julie outlines. Just think, in 13 weeks your family will be prepared to meet any accident, ordeal or difficult circumstance and be savvy about it.

How cool is that!

The Survival Savvy Family

Author Julie Sczerbinski is just like you. She loves her family. And she worries about their well-being. Disasters, from natural to financial, concern her. But unlike most of us, she has a plan. And now, so can you.

Smart, upbeat and direct, Survival Savvy Family helps you to be your best during the absolute worst. This thorough and handy book covers the basics–a family emergency plan, what to include in an emergency kit, tips on food and water storage–and the complex–natural disasters, house fires and home invasions.

Find out how easy it is to plan for the unexpected without being overwhelmed. You can help your children stay safe at school, in the neighborhood and online. Learn to take control before chaos hits. Become a Survival Savvy Family.
