Get Ready To ShakeOut – The Great ShakeOut

The Great Shakeout
The Great Shakeout

PreparednessMama wants to invite you to the next big hit! The Great ShakeOut! No – we aren’t jumping on the Harlem Shake craze, but the year’s biggest earthquake drill. Yes – we are really that nerdy that we actually get excited about these kinds of things.

Let’s face it, planning for earthquake preparedness is not very fun by yourself… in the middle of the office… now you can invite your friends and make it a company party.

“Great ShakeOut earthquake drills help people in homes, school, and organizations improve preparedness and practice how to be safe during earthquakes.”   www.shakeout.org

Last year a whooping 19.4 million participated worldwide!! Can’t you just picture all those smiling people crammed under their cubicle desks. Who says drills are for kids?

Who says drills are for kids?
Who says drills are for kids?

Sound like fun, here’s how to join the party:

Simply go to www.shakeout.org and click on your state. There you can register your participation, download information, play a game (cool huh?), and even purchase T-shirts for the occasion. My personal favorite part is the audio tools; they’ve got background noise and instructions to play during your drill.

The Great ShakeOut people have thought of everything! The site also has numerous resources for making your friends, co-workers, and neighborhood aware of the fun, not to mention organizational tools for planning the event for your office, or school. Oh, don’t forget to take pictures and video of your shakeout, you can upload them to the site and share your earthquake preparedness fun with the world.

Utah is taking the lead with their shakeout happening on the 17th of this April! Most of the others will be occurring in October, which I think is the perfect compliment to Halloween.

So now is the time to mark your calendar, register with your state, and start spreading the word.

This could be bigger than the Harlem Shake!
